Have u tried putting 1 or 2 pcs of cardstock on top of the 2nd Spellbinders mat? That will give a little more thickness. The embossing shows up really well with mine using this recipe, but I think every machine is a little different. So you might need to tweak the recipe and find out what works for you. My friend uses this recipe: A plate, Fiskars plate face up, Paper/Cardstock to be embossed face down, Spellbinders mat, C plate. I tried her recipe and it's way too thick for my machine.

It should appear as a floating selection in your layers dock. Right click the floating selection in the layers dock and select new layer and it should fix your problem. If you can't see the layers dock, press ctrl+l to open it. Hope this helps.

I know you may be trying to be funny, but in case you are interested, the word "faux" itself is not an English word - it's french. As for the "chip" brush, that's what it's called and it's a brush made of 100% natural bristles. They're great for getting a similar texture that you get pouncing with the poofy pad so blending with a chip brush in corners and edges at ceilings is ideal. Poofy pad is just a name I gave it cause I couldn't think of anything else? Any suggestions? lol

A couple other good sources for textures are: Get some scrapbooking papers at your local hobby shop (Michaels, Hobby Lobby, etc) and scan them in. Also, you can go to Lowes, Home Depot, Sears, etc. and get the little sample sheets of wall paper or paint and scan them in.

Well, I'm using your second method of "erasing" the texture with keeping the color of the layer, but no matter what color I use to fill the new image, that color leaches onto my photo that I'm trying to erase the texture on. It does seem to be erasing the texture, but it's not leaving the color as is. It's adding a hue of whatever color I'm using. Any suggestions? I AM using PSE, so maybe that has something to do with it? I would think that with this particular technique, it wouldn't matter...

thanks for the tutorial! helps a lot :D by the way, as you mentioned about next gen games these days, they actually do use alpha maps/channels to make a ton of the art work for pretty much every single game still released today they merely don't use alpha maps as much on things that you would be up close to(though for things as u said 'chain link fence' of course will always use alpha channels for decades). most alpha use these days is for environment art or cloth/vegetation assets

as67as, The steps to do this are: Create - Polygon Primitives - Plane. Select the plane, hold down right mse button and Assign New Material, select a Lambert. When the Lambert material properties come up go over to the little checkered box next to Color. Click on it, select File in the right row, and when the file texture attrs pop up, go over to the little folder next to Image Name and find your image you want to map into the material. Hit the 6 key on the keyboard to view the texture.

Useful video. I watched this a couple of years ago and it was a big help. Some comments: - The fixed pin option in texture positioning is not present in current (7.x) SU. - Whereas the green pin (lower right corner) The height of the texture can be used to rotate and adjust horizontal size of the texture, the image can be scaled using the blue pin (top left corner)... do this first, and then adjust the width with the green pin. Perhaps it would be worth uploading a new version of this video :)
