Supposedly they don't do the cutting anymore for lasik, they soak your eye in alcohol and mush the cornea out of the way, then push it back, it heals over night, they give you a sleeping pill and goggles so you don't touch your eye. I had it done 3 years ago, the dry eyes are murder, feels like sand spurs under your eye lids, you can't open your eyes in the morning without fumbling for your life line eye drops, I wake up 2 or 3 times a night to put drops in my eyes they hurt so bad. NOOOO!!!

Don't worry everybody they use like 4 eye drops 20 mins before the actually surgery so you don't feel any pain. The only thing you fell is slight pressure...got mines done yesterday =)

That's an awesome video!!!! Wearing contacts and glasses had caused so much trouble for me that I decided on LASIK and having it next month. I've lost contacts at pool parties, broke glasses, rubbed my eyes while driving and would tear a contact still inside of my eye, it would split into pieces that would be hard to get, and old other kinds of crap....This video made me cry, because it is AMAZING to be able to SEE!!! Such a short procedure, so expensive, but the best you can do for yourself.

I have + 4.75, but i can see very much without glasses but everything is just a bit smaller, so i dont really understand, but ok.. yes a screw stays in your knee but it's nothing you don't even feel it, and if you feel like crap I just had my 3rd knee ligament operation almost 5 weeks ago. You go in for like 45mins, you come out you don't feel a thing, after you wake up they bandage you up to go, then two weeks later you get your stitches taken off which shouldn't really hurt. The MOST important thing if you want a fast and succesful recovery is your physiotherapy. Don't worry about it, think of ppl with big surgeries

I had ACL surgery and meniscus surgery 2 years ago. I tore my acl and meniscus going up for a rebound while practicing with my high school basketball team. All I have to say is good luck to anyone struggling with physical therapy or the pains of the first few days after surgery. My only recommendation is to take your physical therapy 100% SERIOUSLY if you want to have a speedy recovery back to athletic performance or just normal day to day life. Also, get used to icing your knee all the time.

@dritb4 I partically tore it when I was 5 from a trampoline accident. It took the doctors about 8 years to find out what happened via MRI. By that time, I had broken my femur, there were a couple of holes in it, and I was walking around with a torn ACL, as well as a few other problems. I'm 16 now and my leg doesn't have much feeling and I have some problems with it. I've been kicked out of a few physical therephy places and there isn't any way to fix my legs.

I had an ACL (Anterior Cruciate Ligament) reconstruction done 3 weeks ago. If your about to have this done, OrginalKork, My advice to you is watch stuff like this AFTER! I hurts the next day 'cos it aches... then it's really stiff and the physio can be quite painfull - but nothing unbearable. 3 Weeks in and i'm walking my dog now - I've a long way to go, but if you work at getting better. You get better.

Bone is the only element which is not muscle as it has no where near the amount of nerve endings its bone marrow, neither does it bend or stretch. The brain can swell when the skull is hit hard, fluid builds up in a reaction to protect its flesh, exactly what any muscle does on the body. unfortunately left untreated, this can cause death.

I had a hernia Surgery about 2 years ago.The main cause was me and my friend were riding our bikes, then there was a ramp next to the dumpster we rode by. So we decided to jump the ramp!! Then we jumped it! He landed fine, but when i was done jumping, i didn't make the jump right, and smacked my groin area right on the corner of the dumpster!! If none of you know, that is pure steal! So that crash probably cause my groin area to rip. The process to fix it and heal it took about a month!

As a woman, I now understand why breast cancer is really painful; and if I were a breast cancer patient, I would personally just keep my breasts and die unless I could get a lumpectomy, was single for the rest of my life (which is most likely), or had a really good man (Ha! I don't know why total hip replacement patients opt to get this type of surgery when there is the Direct Anterior Approach that preserves the gluteus and femoral muscles. Recovery time is shorter than this type of barbaric surgery. More surgeons should train to do the Direct Anterior Approach. Shorter hospital stay and physical therapy. They should purchase the right equipment to perform this surgery and have pity on patients giving them less trauma, pain & faster recovery with no restrictions.

my husband had both hips replaced on May 12th. He has anklylosis spondlyitis (a form of arthritis which calles fusion of the bones). Prior to his surgery, his hips had been totally fused for 30 years. i was 37. major accident warrented replacemnt. I have had nothing but pain for the last 9 years. Doctors and ortho's wont do anything for me. I am in constant pain, its ruined my life but the docs really dont give a damn. There paid, I'm broke and perverbeally screwed. Pain clinics have not helped, pysycall therapy is a joke, herbal and accupunture hasnt helped either. I am a 23 year old girl who is about to have her second hip replacement. I will now have had a double hip replacement. I believe as I am younger I will heal a lot quicker and with more ease that somebody who is twice my age. If you are needing a hip replacement then it is the best thing you can do. It has stopped my pain and I am able to function normally. The reasons for me to have my hip done is to stop me from having to take a large amount of pain killers. Hope this has helped!!!

This is an example of small-incision cataract and intra-ocular lens implant surgery I filmed about four years ago, as viewed through the operating microscope. It uses a one-handed technique which I find very helpful in certain cases, especially for "soft" cataracts.

@mikeandgore No, there is rarely any discomfort at all, believe it or not. Ophthalmologists can easily and quickly induce exquisite topical/local anesthesia for the eye, thank goodness. A big difference compared to how the ancient Egyptians used to "couch" a cataract (push it to the back and bottom of the eye) by sticking a needle into the eye without anesthesia! Ouch! (In fact, the word "cataract" is an Egyptian-derived word meaning waterfall!)

@xxxslayerxxx666 Actually, the surgery is very upbeat! I love restoring good vision to my patients. The video only looks like "gore" to people not used to seeing modern surgery or understanding the wonderful benefits these patients receive. Cataract surgery is one of the "happiest" surgeries I can think of. Just ask my patients ;)

@TheKhalipha Yes, that is an artificial lens, called in intra-ocular lens implant. It is held within the original lens's remaining "capsular bag" that is still suspended in the eye by the original "zonules" or ligaments behind the iris and pupil. That is hard to see in this video. Some newer lenses can actually focus (accommodate) or are "multifocal." Glasses still sometimes are needed for best distance and/or near vision.

@forthepeeps345 Somewhat. We do have an anesthesiologist administer some mild sedation, especially at the beginning of the procedure. This helps the patient relax. The procedure is usually pretty quick and not uncomfortable. I constantly talk to the patient, keeping the patient informed on how things are going and reminding the patient to stay still. They really like that.

@jeffbrant Thank you very much for your reply. I cannot believe how well the operations went. I can see so clearly and blue is quite a dominate colour at night. There is a lot of glare on sunny days or when there has been a snow fall. I guess that is normal.

@ikinmoore Very likely that the lens implant will outlive you! It is very rare to have any problems with most of these lenses, unless something else happens to your eye (like trauma). You could develop what we sometimes call an "after-cataract" down the road. That is simply opacification of the posterior lens capsule (located behind your implant and not normally removed during cataract surgery). If this happens, it is easily remedied w/ quick laser procedure with little risk.

@smcnell You need to discuss this with your ophthalmologist and retina specialist. It really depends on how long your retina was detached and whether or not your macula (central part of the retina) was detached. Lots of factors here. @ReCkLeSsErr0r Yes, we do some cases under general anesthesia, but very few. Usually reserved for patient who can't cooperate. Genereal anesthesia is more dangerous than topical.

@CoddGodd Don't worry, it won't be painful. There are very limited amount of blood since the incision is done on an area without blood flow. They wont have to do any sowing because the pressure of your eye should close the wound. All in all, you will be fine.
