@MoonHoplite as far as i no pharmacy has a large proportion of pharmacology in it but it puts the focus on applying the pharmacological knowledge to a clinical or shop setting.Pharmacology is better for medical research, but in saying tht u can do pharmacy and go into industry. the pharmacology degree is three years like most degrees and the pharmacy is four years, and is a masters so it is not about sellin drugs.If you look up a pharmacy course thu ucas u can see get more info

I don't know why so much people cry about Pharmacist's salaries. A good Pharmacist that does the job right (knows how to bill,fast and effective etc.) and works the same hours as Medical Doctors can make similar salaries,if not more. I know some Pharm.D. graduates who signed for about 105k/year straight out school and work an avg of 35 hours/week. You can even supplement your income by doing teaching/research or simply have to work for big pharmaceutical companies. Get your facts straight...

At these health fairs we screen patients for diabetes, hypertension, body fat, hyperlidpidemia...and we counsel patients how to lead healthier lifestyles. We do so much more than this video displays, and it's a shame it has the US news and world report stamp on it.

And nurses have more clinical/medicine knowledge more than pharmacists? so when i am in practice in order to obtain a? patient's renal clearance, or opitmal dosage regime, do you or the nurse calculate this for the doctors within my practice? No it is the pharmacist they turn to, when a multple drug therapy needs optimising, is it the nurse the doctors turn to? Is it another working doctor in the hospital that the doctors turn to? Amine, i am now a fully qualified doctor, and previously a pharmacist. I had done a full 5 year pharmacy degree before going into medicine, and i can honestly say that your lack of understanding of a pharmacist's role shows pure ignorance towards the profession. You are clearly wrong when you say a nurse knows more than a pharmacist as i, from experience, can say knowledge wise of doctors and pharmacists is VERY similar. I have examined the pharmacy profession in Canada and realized that the way our profession is looked at there, is completely different. Hi again(comment#2 read after #1) ... of material, then you may do just fine in pharmacy school. But like, I say, when I went into pharmacy school I already had a knowledge of drugs, the brand-generics, compounding, chemotherapy, and the list goes on. I didn't have trouble with many of my classes. I fizzled out because I lost motivation, but I regret that. And mind you, some of the best pharmacists that I have ever worked with were once pharmacy technicians-just don't get in the tech "rut."

Hi, (Comment#1 read first) When I attempted to get into pharmacy, and was accepted but later dropped out after my first year, I found that the information that I had gleaned as a pharmacy technician was extremely beneficial. Because I had a knowledge of "pharmacy" things in general-I could also see what a pharmacist did and learn as much as I could from them. Now, on the other hand, if you can get in to pharmacy school the first time around and you don't have trouble memorizing large chunks...

A major con for me is interacting with the public all day. I'm a little more reserved. One of the other techs I used to work with loves her job and interacting with people all day. People are sick and in a bad move and take it out on us in the pharmacy all the time. You get used to it, but you lose compassion for people. The corporate overlords at the central offices don't care to much about you either. Not enough staff. Over worked and under paid. I'm glad I left the field..

Well I can tell you that the pay spread for technicians and pharmacist is at least 40 grand a year so if you can invest 4 more years of school while working it would be worth the effort. After all you will eventually be required to get certified in most states. And you will be doing the same work as a pharmacist if working in the hospital.

I just applied for a pharm tech position at Walgreens. Is the pay pretty good for people who are not certified? Do they pay for your training and to take the PTCB test? Do not confuse pharmacy to only be retail pharmacy. That niche has relegated these professionals to a nightmarish box of limited possibilities. A consultant pharmacist, hospital pharmacist, home infusion pharmacist, anticoagulation or diabetes or digoxin pharmacist--these are all specialties that can be much more interesting. However, retail is a nice immediate high demand job that pays well too.

CVS bought out Longs Drugs (CA based) in Oct of 2008 and once they changed the name on the front and the way we did business, customers noticed right away, and were not happy. And almost 2 years later, people still come up to me at the register and tell me how much better Longs was. CVS may have been able to convince East Coast people they're great, but the West, not so much.

Hmm... While I'm not a total fanboy of the company, I do wish to point out that I at least make sure to say hello or goodbye to every single customer who comes/leaves. It's possible that your store's cashiers just weren't properly trained. I mean, it shouldn't take training to realize that you should greet customers, but some people don't realize how disrespectful it is. With that said, I more often than not get ignored or even get an angry face from customers when I say hello/goodbye.

The purpose of defensive firearms use is to take the offender out of the fight, or neutralize them. This does not mean kill them. Killing is often the fastest and most reliable way, but what this man (if the description is correct) did was murder, and should be charged as such. Also another reason to use .45/12 for HD ammo. Shoot less, look better in front of Jury if it comes to that.

I am a pharmacist. Chain pharmacies limit the number of pharmacy techs to support the pharmacist in an attempt to save money. Depending on the amount of prescriptions you process per day is what they use to determine the amount of help you should have. The pharmacists work non-stop and are expected to process as much Rx's as they can in the shortest amount of time. For that reason I left chain pharmacy to work in a hospital. I make thousands of corrections every year.

@gr8est08 -- Each pharmacist I have worked for--corporate and independent--has always made a notation on the Rx receipt attached to the bag of possible OTC interactions with a medication, or interactions as simple as being on an antibiotic and sun exposure. I'm shocked at the technicians not asking the patients if they have any questions before the signature, and the offhand "it's to show you picked up your prescription" actually goes against HIPAA laws, which were in effect when this aired.

I think it's bull how a doctor's consultation about a patient's known medications falls onto the pharmacist; a good doctor fully reviews a chart and always asks a patient what else they're taking. Many times I worked beside pharmacists who caught the interactions before the Rx was typed into the system (which auto-checks interactions of known meds). Building a good rapport with your pharmacist and doctor(s) also keeps everyone "in the know" and prevents possible interactions.

"When do you want to come back and pick this up?" "I can't have it now?" Dude, you just handed me the prescription! And you can't just blame Walgreens. CVS, Wal*Mart, local pharmacies, all make mistakes. Our jobs are hard enough as it is without 20/20 trying to make people more mad at us. And we're not fast food, so don't expect to get your medication as soon as you "order" it. They need to make a video of what the techs/pharmacists have to do to fill a prescription.

No, I do not. I am not a proponent for any drug company at all. I am in favor of the advancement and betterment of the health care profession. Stories like these are biased, the facts are twisted, and in the end these segments help no one. But, don't think for one moment doctors and pharmacists are out to kill you. That's farthest from the truth (minus Dr. Kevorkian). Like I said before, they save lives and help make them better. Everyone makes mistakes. It's part of what makes us human.

They can also save your life, dumbass. They are not out to purposely harm you. The next time you need an antibiotic or you pick up a monthly prescription, be thankful you live in a country where this service is available. People like to focus on the bad and not see all the good there is. I'm not saying medication errors aren't harmful because they can (and unfortunately sometimes do) harm and/or kill people, but imagine how many people would die if health care professionals did not exist.

That mistake is exactly why trailing zeros should no longer be used. The script probably said 1.0 mg. I love how they didn't show what the prescription actually looked like. That would probably just shed a better light on pharmacies. Also, since when do pharmacy technicians VERIFY scripts? That's the pharmacist's job, and that's the reason they go to school for 6 years.

This segment they did was very angering to me as a pharmacy student the first time I saw it. 20/20 tends to choose the most controversial evidence when making a point. After they aired this, I didn't want to go into work. In the world of medicine, do you know what a study with 100 people proves? Not much. You need much a bigger test group to draw any conclusions. 20/20 should have tried this at many more stores and took individual state laws into consideration, as well as independent pharmacies.

While I'm not minimizing the problem, I just want to say that while I'm living in Korea, not only am I not told what medications I'm taking, there is no information about the drubs, dosage, side effects, potential interactions, etc. In many cases, the pills come in unlabeled packs. My doctors don't even ask what medications I take. It's truly frightening.

I am a nationally certified pharmacy technician in OHIO. Everything I am commenting on is in regards to OHIO law. These are a few things that are inaccurate: 0:48/2:51 - Pharmacist's are not required by law to counsel anyone. It is the patient's responsibility to ask questions if they have any! 3:35 - You're not being mislead at all! Read the paper that you have to sign. That's all it takes. Don't be lazy. 4:05 - Yes, you are saying you don't want counseling...and that's your choice.

I worked as a Pharmacy Technician at Walgreens 3 years ago, and it was seriously the WORST job I've EVER HAD in my ENTIRE LIFE!! And I have worked fast food in the past. In order for pharmacist to overcome making errors, the company must support the pharmacist in doing so. Most companies have a quota system where they will not have 2 pharmacist in a store at the same time unless that store fills a certian number of perscriptions per day. The company execs are treating pharmacist like they are on a grill at a fast food chain. With the drive thru, the perscription drop off window, the pick up window, the pt consultation window, and the phone, you will go crazy.

manna, if the heart is still beating, then blood will bee pumped out of the bullet holes, in contrast to a dead body, which would only leak blood, not spray it. Secondly, the robber was neutralized when he was shot in the head and stopped moving. And if not then, certainly when the pharm. left the store, he could have kept walking away, but he chose to re-enter the crime scene. Either way, he wouldn't be in any danger. The option he chose put him in more risk.

So very true...some of them are so ignorant. And ofcourse you have to be a professional at all times and that's the hardest part because sometimes I want to scream at them. Very true that they make a big deal about their copays, sometimes even 10 dollars is an issue when without it they could be paying hundreds of dollars.
