what exactly is the innovation? concentrating sunlight is as old as solar voltaic. solar power is silly anyway. Its weather dependend and notoriously refuses to work during the night. geothermal power has none of those disadvantages, is available on every place on the planet (you dont need cables running over miles) and needs a fraction of energy to build compared to solar voltaic per kWh.

@imnotabear None of these recipes use cooked kimchi. The kimchi is either eaten on the side or with the meat. If you want to see cooked kimchi, you'd have to check out kimchi bokkumbap, which is Kimchi Fried Rice.

This sounds interesting, but I don't think it would be that useful for me as a gamer--I prefer joysticks, and in FPS games players tend to run as fast as they possibly can anyway. I'm completely sure though that once this comes out and becomes widespread, more useful new applications would soon be invented. (Just like how people started using the scroll button on the mouse.)

Great idea (DualShock 2s and original Xbox pads already use this approach), but rubber dome keyswitches = fail for tactile feedback. Make a pressure-sensitive keyboard with IBM Model M or Cherry-style keyswitches and then I'll be interested. (It would work well with such boards because their keys have quite a lot of travel-even overtravel after actuation.)

I don't know if we can conceive of the high tech future that Schmidt is talking about. Nanotech factories will be able to sit on a kitchen counter and produce anything. The cost in work hours for a smartphone/tv/sterio is much lower than the cost for a landline 40 years ago, but the cost for house is much higher. Why has the value of that house grown so much? 1966 avg house 14k, avg income 7k. 2009 avg house 215k, avg income 50k. This is after a precipitous drop in housing.

Why enterpreneurs are not focusing on solving problems of poor ? 1. Professional education systems does not teach them about poor. 2. Enterpreneurs are mostly from middle class and above, who have no knowledge about daily life of a poor. They were told to ignore poor because they are hopeless. 3. There is no incentive serving poor community - neither social recognition nor lot of money - that excluding both types (social and commercial) of enterpreneurs.

Sam ia a genius. I worked with him when he a product designer at WESCOM in Downers Grove, IL. He put together a PBX/ACD sytem called the 580. This PBX/ACD was state of the art in early 80's.

There are just so many opportunities where design and innovation can upgrade life. I love the water bag idea, its simple and affordable & just like our stackable bucket, "Stacket", it solves a very real and pressing problem. The fact is there are few channels that can take innovations like these to market , and little reward for the people who try. We may in the future need to change the benchmarks for success in society to include more than commercials for more people to take up such a route.

i feel myself very lucky to get a chance to meet him when i was in Chicago... he was the one who supported our group (Khorana program of student exchange) and made it possible for us to work there in University of Wisconsin on a government funding and support... we talked to him about an hour and in this short span of time he became my inspiration.....
