Congratulations. This is one of the best Chin na demos I have ever seen! Neither person cheats a movement or gives one away to their opponent, and it shows the subtle movements of chin na well. If you don't have a good hold, you can find yourself in one faster than you think. I would like a lot of MMA fighters to see this as well, so they would shut up about Chinese arts not being effective. It's the practitioner, not the style, and this can give a sense of that philosophy. Great job guys!

Originally Jet Li starts off using the traditional Kung Fu but he's grown past it and created his own "Mixed" variation which works best for him. At the beginning of the fight he is losing cause he can no longer work the traditional method. Slowly in the fight he changes to his own freestyle and gains the upperhand. Actually if no one has seen this movie this fight is more about Jet Li's character's more unorthodox method which is Westernized. That's the reason for the difference in their clothing. It's showing the difference between a pattern of movements /kungfu vs freestyle more in line of the JKD "make your own style" way of thinking. It's more boxing toward the end which throws off the traditional fighting style, notice the footwork is completely different in each style.

im a chin-na student myself. chin-na differs from shcool to school, although the basic elemnts stay the same. the chin na in this video is more passive or defensive chin na. there is another element to the art that this vid does not show which is the agressive chin na and ground techniques. a very cool video though.

DaMo's existence is NOT historical fact at all. In fact most think it is mrer myth. The fact that someone went to China and asked someone if it's true doesn't make it so. True scholars of chinese MA have determined most of that to be bunk. There may have been a monk from India that came to China but if he brought anything physical it was what is now termed QiGong - a modified version of Indian yoga, kundalini to be specfic. Chinese MA are regionally and family based, nto from Shaolin.

Again Tai Chi chuan isn't a Wu Shu Shaolin system but a Wu Dang system that found it's roots into the Chen Village and later Yang Liu Bao learned it and developed the Yang system into what it is today. Again didn't we cover this. The teachings that DaMu gave were martial art techniques. They were both Chi Gong and Martial Arts. The monks used them and combined them with other techniques. Now you can split hairs if you want to but the bottom line is the founder of Shoalin Temple Wu Shu was from India.

Exactly! The 18 movements were developed based off of Damo's teachings. But the fighting techniques were not Damo's at all. When people started coming into the Shaolin monastery they brought along with them the Wushu that they had learned from they're family or seifu. Shaolin eventually became deeply envolved in learning and adopting styles of wushu, incorporating it into their system of wushu. Ex. Praying mantis, Tai Chi, Wing Chun. Its natural for them to worship Damo as a creator. >

Went to the cave spoke to the monks, came back and told me. I researched it myself and found it to be accurate. Unfortunately, I was not able to go to China for that trip.
