Abdominal Liposuction : Cheating or Not?

June 13, 2007 · Filed Under liposuction, surgical-cosmetic-procedures · Comment

Do you think abdominal liposuction is cheating? I had a conversation with my niece who told me she thinks it’s a cop out. Of course, she is in her early twenties with a metabolism that burns calories even when she is just breathing! This response was very interesting to me because as someone in their forties I don’t have that kind of metabolism anymore. I’m not someone who would be considered a couch potato. I try to exercise regularly and eat a good diet at least 80% of the time. Yet steadily over the years I have not been able to make progress in losing the weight on my abdomen. At this point abdominal liposuction is an option and a very legitimate one regardless of what my twenty something niece might think.

Liposuction has had instant success with men and women worldwide. They have dieted and exercised without the visible results that they want. We all have been faced with weight problems either for ourselves or with family or friends. Everyone has dealt with someone who has gained a few too many pounds and is not happy about it. Statistics show that even though the cost of abdominal liposuction is not cheap, it is also one of the most performed cosmetic procedures in the U.S.

The Abdominal Liposuction Procedure

Abdominal liposuction surgery takes approximately couple of hours depending on the person the amount of liposuction you will be undergoing and the type of liposuction equipment that will be used. Beforehand you will need to go through a series of physical examination before you have the operation in order to ensure that you are both physically fit and will not face any major complications. The doctors want to ensure that you can heal as quickly as possible.

The procedure itself is not complicated. What is more complicated is the healing process and the post operative instructions given to you by your doctor. The healing process can take a few months during which time you will have to be on a strict diet as prescribed by the doctor. Before you undergo surgery be sure to get an abdominal liposuction picture from your doctor so that you can see what to expect. Many patients are not prepared for the reality after the operation. After the operation the area is bruised and lumps may form where the fat was extracted. The good news is that it should be temporary and it will all disappear in matter is months.

Abdominal Liposuction Risks

Don’t expect miracles overnight and be sure that you fall into the right type of profile of someone who has a good chance of success with this operation. Abdominal liposuction can only relieve you of a few pounds at a time. It is highly recommended for those who have put on around 10 –15 pounds. The person should also be ready to diet and exercise in order to maintain a their form. Obese people may not see a great improvement unless they undergo multiple sessions during a wide period of time. Doctors can not perform another procedure unless the first one has healed enough to support another liposuction.

A statistically minor risk is fatality. Statistics also show that 1 person in 100,000 die due to abdominal liposuction. Most of those cases were because the patient did not follow the diet and post operative directions given. There are also other reasons like a surgeon conducting too much liposuction, the patient having multiple cosmetic procedures done in one day and general anesthesia related.

So am I still considering abdominal liposuction? Yes, because the more research I conduct the more common I know it is. I may give my ab lounge a couple more months but life is short. It is too short to be unhappy with the way that you look day in and day out.

Liposuction on Love Handles - A Manly Solution?

April 2, 2007 · Filed Under liposuction, surgical-cosmetic-procedures · Comment

Most men don’t want to admit they have love handles. They get to a certain age and they may think it’s just a part of life. Liposuction on love handles may not be manly enough for them. Unfortunately the gym and exercise may only go so far when it comes to trying to get of that pesky abdominal fat.

Liposuction on love handles works on the one area that many people have a hard time targeting. For men in particular, this area is located right below the waist. When fat accumulates there; the fat deposits are affectionately referred to as “love handles” by your spouse but the younger guys at the gym might call it more of a “spare tire”. Love handles are almost impossible to lose through diet and exercise. Exercises will often times strengthen the muscles underneath the love handles, but the fat will remain on top. You may have tried multiple sit ups and maybe even the ab lounge but still no progress.

Liposuction on love handles may seem scary but if you’ve tried everything else cosmetic surgery may be your best choice. This type of plastic surgery easily removes that pesky abdominal fat. Abdominal liposuction is permanent as long as you don’t gain a significant amount of weight after the surgery. It will give you the long lasting results that you haven’t been able to get.

Liposuction on love handles is usually an outpatient procedure and you could be back at work after only three days. Local anesthesia as opposed to general anesthesia is used, which means avoiding the risks associated with general anesthesia. If you want to read more about the pros and cons of liposuction please read my previous post. There are some risks to having the liposuction on love handles procedure performed, but generally if the surgery is being performed by a qualified, experienced professional, minimal risk will occur. A specific risk associated with abdominal liposuction is surface irregularity in the skin. This irregularity usually resolves on its own and the risk is minor.

There is a recommended amount of recovery time, although requirements may vary by doctor and depend on the amount of surfaces that you had treated. Usually, the surgeon asks that you spend one week out of work, and two to three more weeks wearing the liposuction garment (otherwise known as a compression garment) provided to you after the liposuction on love handles surgery. After this three week timeframe has passed, you may resume strenuous activity.

Liposuction on love handles may be the only solution to getting rid of your love handles. It’s also the easiest. If you are really frustrated don’t sit around and let those little deposits of fat sitting around on your waist get you down. Especially if there’s something you can do about it. Talk to your family practitioner and get their thoughts. They will refer you to a surgeon who you can ask about abdominal liposuction. The procedure is easy, the risks are minimal, and the recuperation time is fast. Liposuction on love handles will give your loved ones less to love but that’s what you want anyway!
