4 Tips for Looking Better for Your Holiday Parties-No Surgery Required

As we get ready for the holiday celebrations some of us may need a little help looking our best.  I wanted to share some quick tips for things that I do as I prepare for those all important office and family holiday celebrations.

Tip 1 Don’t be afraid of using Shapewear

Whether you recently had children or just haven’t had much time for the gym you may be spilling over is some places that you would prefer not.  Shapewear can tighten up and smooth the look particularly under those black party dresses.  Be sure to read the reviews regarding what kind of clothes will work with the particular shapewear you are buying.  Spanx is a particularly popular brand.

Your Daughter’s Jeans® are here to flatten your tummy, lift your butt and allow you to wear one size smaller.

Be afraid of the imitators!

Tip 3 Teeth Whitening Treatment for Your Best Holiday Smile

This is the time of the year that I go through my at home teeth whitening treatment.  Though I have sensitive teeth I have had success using the longer treatments(not the 3 day ones) with minimal discomfort.  If this is the first time using them, try the longer ones first since the shorter the amount of time for the treatment the higher the possibility that you may experience sensitivity.

Tip 4 Refresh Your Skin with at Home Microdermabrasion

My family and I have been Oil of Olay users from way back.  Moisturizing your skin as you age is very important but in the last 3-5 years many products have come out that take the science of beauty and bring it right into your home.  The microdermabrasion kit that I use is safe enough to use 2 times a week.  If you have never done one of these I would recommend trying it a before your holiday celebrations so that you can time the effect of it for your party.

Tummy Tuck Liposuction Is Not a Word

May 28, 2007 · Filed Under Tummy Tuck, liposuction, surgical-cosmetic-procedures · Comment

The world of plastic surgery can be confusing. Tummy tuck liposuction does not exist. In fact they are 2 different procedures. If you are considering having some work done around your stomach to get rid of excess fat you will probably have to decide between a liposuction or a tummy tuck or perhaps a combination of both.

Liposuction has always been the two top choices of cosmetic surgery that are focused in reducing excess fats in different areas of the body. Choosing between a tummy tuck, liposuction or both can be a confusing decision, the only way to weigh the advantages and disadvantages of these procedures is to understand how each reduces fat.

A tummy tuck, like liposuction, is usually considered when a patient desires a flat tummy. Since even exercise and diet could not get rid of all abdominal fats, tummy tuck can be an effective solution. With a tummy tuck procedure, a large amount of excess skin from the patient’s lower abdomen is removed. For this reason, patients with extreme amounts of skin are recommended to undergo this procedure.

Tummy tucks are recommended for people that have lost excessive amounts of weight producing drooping skin folds. After a liposuction, tummy tuck can also be used to tighten the skin that becomes loose after removing fat deposits. On the other hand, skin usually shrinks after a liposuction procedure, so it is not always necessary to undergo a tummy tuck.

For most people, undergoing liposuction could easily correct their problem. Compared to liposuction, tummy tucks can be a traumatic procedure with a possible 2-feet-long incision from one hip to the next. In addition, the belly button is usually moved downward after a tummy tuck. During a liposuction surgery, only tiny, barely visible incisions are made.

Should a Tummy Tuck be Combined with Liposuction

The majority of deaths associated with liposuction are patients that have undergone multiple procedures on top of the liposuction, such as tummy tucks. While looking for cosmetic surgery promotions that offer “buy one, take two surgeries” can seem like a great deal, be aware of the consequences of undergoing a tummy tuck liposuction combination on the same day are not advised.

Liposuction is generally safe when the procedure is “closed”. Meaning, only a little incision is made. When this happens, only fewer germs can get into entrance wounds thus decreasing the risk of infection.

When tummy tuck and liposuction are combined, additional germs are likely to enter the wounds. Combining tummy tuck and liposuction could also lead to a significant decrease in blood supply, particularly in the around he areas being treated. Both the entrance of germs and loss of blood supply contribute to possible complications that could be experienced after having a tummy tuck liposuction combination.

Ask your surgeon for pictures if you are considering having both. A tummy tuck with liposuction picture can give you a better idea of what to expect. You many not need to have both so know the pros and cons of liposuction versus a tummy tuck. Knowing that they are 2 different procedures is a good start for your research.

Liposuction Recovery Time - Your Roadmap

March 29, 2007 · Filed Under Face Lift, Tummy Tuck, liposuction, surgical-cosmetic-procedures · Comment

As seen in my previous posts cosmetic surgery is best for the well-informed. Your liposuction recovery time depends greatly on you. What do you need to know to get up off your feet and back to work in the quickest time possible? Here is our guide to making the most of your recuperation time.

So you took the chance - you had the liposuction procedure performed. There were no complications the doctor made a point of telling you everything went smoothly. Liposuction recovery time can be quite amazing because you recover at a fairly quick rate. You will be able to get up and walk around easily right after the surgery - it is rare that a patient would have to leave the hospital in a wheel chair.

Here are some things to plan for:

  • Plan to have someone else drive you home
  • Once you are home although you are not confined to your bed you are definitely advised to relax.
  • You are allowed to shower, but you should not take a bath for at least a week.

The night after liposuction, most patients usually sleep well. The next morning, however, is when most patients start to experience slight discomfort. This normally goes away as the patients walk around and move about the house. Do not make the mistake of not moving around. I went through 2 c-sections and the first time I was afraid to move and my recovery time was definitely longer than the second time when I knew better and listened to the nurses.

Typical Stages of Liposuction Recuperation

During the first seventy-two hours after the liposuction surgery, you will most likely observe some drainage from the incisions that the doctors do not stitch. The doctors do not stitch these incisions because swelling tends to go down more quickly if the doctors do not stitch the incisions. However, you should allow the incisions to drain as quickly as possible in order to speed up the healing process. The dressings on your incisions should be changed frequently during your liposuction recovery time, especially during the first twenty-four hours. By the third day, only band-aids will need to be used. Bruising and swelling also tend to occur after liposuction; the bruises and swelling will fade or go down within the next two to three weeks of your liposuction recovery time.

By the third day of recovering from liposuction, many people are out and about running errands. At this time, the spot where the surgery was performed on may feel a little tender if touched or if you accidentally bump into it. Most doctors recommend that you wear a compression garment for the first several days after your surgery.

To more quickly recover from liposuction, there are a few things you can do.

  • drink adequate amounts of water to prevent dehydration
  • avoid alcoholic beverages for forty-eight hours before and after surgery
  • make sure to wear your compression garments to prevent slow healing and excessive drainage

Liposuction recovery time can be fast if you follow the guidelines set forth by your doctor. Don’t let the excitement get to you and forget what you did this for in the first place. Your new body depends on it!
